Spring Keishin
This is a 4-day online intensive training format we call keishin (繋心 pronounced “kay-shin”) or “to connect the mind.”

Teisho
A teisho is a talk given by a Zen Master during intensive training. Rebecca Ryan Roshi will give online teishos that are open to attendees of Daily Zazen every afternoon during Spring Keishin, March 21-24.

Connection: Ease and Joy
This is the last of 6 discussions with Chosei Zen teachers during our Connection: 49-Day Zen Training Period around theme of genuine relationship and Zen practice. This week, Andy Robins Roshi will explore effortlessness without striving and the ability of the fully awakened mind to let go of struggles and be joyous.

Connection: Hara, the Core that Connects
This is the fifth of 6 discussions during our Connection: 49-Day Zen Training Period around theme of genuine relationship and Zen practice. This week, Ken Kushner Roshi, will discuss hara, or the lower abdomen. Hara connects the physical, psychological, and spiritual dimensions of human experience and provides connection to other people and the entire universe.

Intro to Zazen (Online)
Are you new (or returning) to meditation and want to learn the fundamentals? This “crash course” will introduce you to our form of Rinzai Zen seated meditation and hara breathing.

Zazenkai (online intensive training)
This is a one-day intensive training lasting 7am-12pm CST (2-7pm CET in Europe) designed to prepare students to participate in keishin. It will be run by senior students. Students will train separately at home, tethered together through the Zoom. It’s a great opportunity for boosting your training.

Connection: No-mind, Present-mind
This is the fifth of 6 discussions during our Connection: 49-Day Zen Training Period around theme of genuine relationship and Zen practice. This week, Heather Scobie Roshi will explore how being in the body and engaged in the present moment is related to creativity, practice, and relationships.

Hara Development Drop-in
In this Hara Development drop-in, Kenneth Setsuzan Kushner Roshi will continue his discussion of the hara and its role in Zen, based on issues that students raise. This drop-in occurs on the last Saturday morning of each month, after Daily Zazen.

Connection: Wholeheartedness
This is the fourth of 6 discussions during our Connection: 49-Day Zen Training Period around theme of genuine relationship and Zen practice. This week, Rebecca Ryan Roshi will discuss wholeheartedness as a critical Zen practice.

Fresh Talk: Kamae (psycho-physical posture)
This is a Fresh Talk and also a discussion during our Connection: 49-Day Zen Training Period around theme of genuine relationship and Zen practice. This week, Gordon Greene Roshi will focus on kamae, which is a Japanese word frequently used in martial arts. It is sometimes translated as “psycho-physical posture,” but it is about your relationship to all that is around you.

This week, Ginny Whitelaw Roshi will discuss “being one with practice.” In this lead-off session, you'll have a chance to explore your starting relationship with practice and contrast that with the felt sense of being one with.
